Soldiers of the Cypriot National Guard began on Saturday moving the debris of a National Guard helicopter Mi 35 which crashed on Wednesday during a training flight in Agia Marinouda, in the western district of Paphos, killing its two-member crew on board.

Members of the National Guard and the air force began early this morning to load the debris on trucks to be carried to the ``Andreas Papandreou`` airbase for further examinations, while an expert was monitoring the whole procedure.

Minister of Defence Phivos Klokkaris has said that the reasons of the crash will be investigated as soon as possible, while Greek experts and a Russian one are in Cyprus to assist the investigations.

Wednesday`s crash is the third accident involving a National Guard aircraft.

On 10 July 2002 the Commander of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Evangelos Florakis, and four other army officers were killed when their helicopter crashed near the southwestern town of Paphos.

In another incident, two airmen were killed on 10 September 2005 when their PC-9 crashed in Kolossi village, west of the southern coastal town of Limassol.
