    Chinese Alternate Minister of Health to pay official visit to Cyprus

    Nicosia, Aug 26 (CNA) Alternate Minister of Health of the People's Republic of China Chen Xiaohong, heading a six-member delegation, will pay an official visit to Cyprus beginning August 28, at the invitation of Cypriot Minister of Health Andreas Gavrielides.

    According to an official press release, the Chinese Alternate Minister of Health will have talks with Gavrielides on ways of cooperation in all fields of health.

    Congress of Overseas Cypriots continues with PSEKA deliberations

    Limassol, Aug 26 (CNA) The 14th congress of Overseas Cypriots continues today with the deliberations of the International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) with House President Demetris Christofias delivering the opening speech.

    During the morning session PSEKA President Philip Christopher and POMAK President (World Federation of Overseas Cypriots) Haris Sofoklides will address the meeting.

    Cyprus Speaker to take part in IPU summit in New York

    Nicosia, Aug 26 (CNA) House President Demetris Christofias will attend the Second World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, from 7 to 9 September 2005.

    An IPU statement said more than 150 speakers of parliaments are due to attend conference and will bring their vision of multilateral cooperation to the hub of international politics.

    Cypriot Foreign Minister departs for meetings with counterparts

    Nicosia, Aug 26 (CNA) - Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacovou leaves on Sunday for The Netherlands, Slovakia and Austria for meetings with his counterparts in view of the COREPER meeting on August 31.

    The permanent representatives are expected to examine the issue arising with the declaration by Turkey that it does not recognise the Republic of Cyprus, and the Turkey-EU negotiating framework.

    An official statement said Iacovou would then depart for Newport, Wales, to take part in the informal EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting on September 1 and 2, which will also discuss the enlargement procedure including Turkey and Croatia.

    House President says Turkey's stance provocation to EU

    Limassol, Aug 26 (CNA) - Cypriot House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias said Turkey's unacceptable attitude of not recognising the Republic of Cyprus and implementing the protocol extending its customs union agreement to cover the ten new EU member states, including Cyprus, is a provocation to the EU.

    Christofias told delegates at the 14th Congress of Overseas Cypriots, that continues today with the deliberations of the International Coordinating Committee - Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA), that the EU must take into consideration Turkey's stance when the final decision for its EU course will be taken.
