    Investigations continue into Helios air crash

    Nicosia, Aug 19 (CNA) -- As bereaved relatives of the victims of Sunday's air tragedy bury their dead, experts in Greece and Cyprus continue their painstaking investigations into the cause of the Helios Airways Boeing 737 that killed all 121 passengers and crew on board, when it crashed into a mountainside north of Athens.

    Today Cyprus police are taking to Athens, where authorities lead the investigations into the air crash, 133 DNA samples from relatives of the victims to help the identification process of bodies not yet identified.

    No toxic fumes detected in crash victims, voice recorder found

    Athens, Aug 19 (CNA) Tests so far carried out on victims of a Cyprus airliner crash have shown no carbon monoxide poisoning, forensic experts in Athens said today.

    After six days of search, the cockpit voice recorder was found, raising hopes that the last conversations would shed light on Sunday's air disaster when an Helios Airways Boeing 737 crashed into the mountainside, near Athens, killing all 121 people on board.

    The other ''black box'', which records flight data, had already been located.

    Cyprus Foreign Ministry welcomes Israeli withdrawal from Gaza

    Nicosia, Aug 19 (CNA) --The Republic of Cyprus welcomes the start of the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and four settlements in the West Bank.

    In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus said ''we look forward to a smooth and successful completion of the process of withdrawal'' and ''we consider this an important step in the direction of furthering the prospects of peace, security and stability in the region''.

    Cypriot tourists dead in Sharm el-Sheikh bus crash

    Nicosia, Aug 19 (CNA) At least 7 Cypriot tourists were killed and 3 others injured when their bus crashed in Egypt, officials say.

    Permanent Secretary of Cypriot Foreign Ministry Sotos Zakheos said that according to reports from a military hospital in Egypt, 13 Cypriots were returning to Sharm el-Sheikh from an excursion to St Catherine monastery at Mount Sinai, when their minibus overturned.

    Cyprus' Ambassador in Cairo Phaedon Anastasiou is on his way to the area to provide assistance to Cypriot nationals.

    The names of the victims have not been released, pending notification of their next of kin.
