    Cypriots to travel to Turkey for Anorthosis - Trabzonspor game

    Nicosia, Aug 1 (CNA) -- A 150 member Cypriot delegation leaves tonight for the Black Sea city of Trabzon, Turkey, where the final leg of the second qualifying round of the Champions League will take place Wednesday between Cypriot team Anorthosis Famagusta and Turkish Trabzonspor.

    The team will fly from Larnaca to Trabzon, via Damascus, Syria on a chartered Syrian airlines flight.

    Cyprus and Botswana finalise diplomatic relations

    Nicosia, Aug 1 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Botswana have signed a joint letter addressed to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan informing him over the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

    An official press release issued here said Cyprus' Permanent Representative to the UN Andreas Mavroyiannis and Botswana's Permanent Representative to the UN Alfred Dube have signed the letter on July 29.

    Greek Cypriot refugees determined to continue struggle

    Nicosia, Aug 1 (CNA) -- The Municipalities and Associations of Cyprus' Turkish occupied towns of Lapithos and Karavas have declared their determination to continue their struggle with all means in their disposal to find a just and peaceful solution to the Cyprus problem.

    On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Turkish occupation of Lapithos and Karavas on August 6, a representation comprising Mayors of Lapithos and Karavas Athos Eleftheriou and Yiannis Papaioannou respectively and members of Lapithos and Karavas refugees associations handed over today petitions to Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, House President Demetris Christofias, Greece's Ambassador to Cyprus Demetris Rallis and the UN.

    Famagusta Mayor calls for viable solution to Cyprus problem

    Nicosia, Aug 1 (CNA) -- Mayor of Turkish occupied town of Famagusta Yiannakis Skordis has said today efforts must be exerted to achieve a right, viable and just solution to the Cyprus problem, adding that 31 years are too much for the problem to remain unresolved.

    Skordis was speaking to the press after handing over a petition to the Embassies of China, France, the US and the Russian Federation in Nicosia, in which the Mayor and the Municipal Council of Famagusta call on its recipients to exert all efforts for the best possible solution the soonest for the sake of the whole of Cyprus and its people, Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
