EU Presidency efforts for agreement on regulations collapse

    by Nicos Bellos

Brussels, Jun 28 (CNA) The EU Luxembourg Presidency's efforts to secure an agreement on the two European Union regulations (on direct trade with the Turkish occupied north and on allocation of 259 million euro to Turkish Cypriots) have collapsed.

The deadlock is mainly attributed to the intransigent stance firstly of Britain and at a lesser extend to The Netherlands. Four countries (Sweden, Italy, Denmark, Germany) expressed reservations, although clarified that had there been unanimity between all memberstates they would have accept the presidency's proposal.
