Cypriot MEP raises property issue with EU-Turkey Committee

Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) - Cypriot EMP Yiannakis Matsis, member of the European People's Party, participated in the meeting of the Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee, taking place in Constantinople (Istanbul), during which he raised the issue of the exploitation of Greek Cypriot property in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus and the construction boom on those properties.

A press release issued by his office says that Matsis proposed the replacement of Turkish occupation troops by a small European force, the cost of which would be undertaken by the Republic of Cyprus, and requested that all Turkish settlers be repatriated and that no more are sent to the occupied areas.

Greek President: Cyprus solution a priority

Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) The reunification of Cyprus, now that the country has joined the European Union, continues to be a priority for Greece, Greek President Karolos Papoulias has said, during a three-day state visit to Austria at the invitation of his Austrian counterpart Heinz Fischer.

In a speech at a lunch, hosted in his honour by Fischer in Vienna, Papoulias said Greece supports the resumption of talks under UN aegis, based on a UN solution plan, Security Council resolutions and EU principles, to find a functional and therefore viable solution to the Cyprus problem.
