    Cyprus Doctors of the World to leave for Sri Lanka tomorrow

    Nicosia, Dec 28 (CNA) -- A three-member delegation of the Cyprus branch of the Doctors of the World leaves for Sri Lanka tomorrow morning with medical supplies to help the victims of the devastating earthquake in south-east Asia which triggered deadly tsunamis, killing more than 26 thousand people.

    Nicosia, Dec 28 (CNA) -- Hopes that the remaining twenty Cypriots who are still unaccounted for in the devastating quake and tsunamis that followed in south-east Asia will be located today, said Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary Sotos Zackheos.

    Cyprus Church offers financial assistance to south-east Asia countries

    Paphos, Dec 28 (CNA) -- The Cyprus Church will offer five thousand Cyprus pounds to the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit south-east Asia and resulted with the deadly tsunamis that killed more than 29 thousand people. (One Cyprus pound equals to approx. two US dollars).

    The decision was taken by phone after all Holy Synod members were contacted by Paphos Bishop Chrysostomos.

    Nicosia, Dec 28 (CNA) -- The Cypriot branch of the Doctors of the World are preparing a mission to Gaza to carry out operations on Palestinian children and to investigate the possibility of putting up parks in the area to psychologically boost residents of refugee camps.

    Bi-communal Youth Forum says April referenda not end of road

    Nicosia, Dec 28 (CNA) -- Greek and Turkish Cypriot youth organisations forming the Bi-Communal Youth Forum said here today that the April referenda on a UN comprehensive settlement plan was not the end of the road for Cyprus.

    The Bi-Communal Youth Forum held a conference in the coastal resort of Ayia Napa on December 4-5, that resulted to a six-point common declaration which was read out today by Christos Christofides, on behalf of the Greek Cypriot youth organisations, and Atif Mouazine on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot youth organisations.

    In their declaration, the Youth Forum called on the international community and especially the United Nations and the European Union to undertake a new initiative to allay the Greek Cypriot concerns so that a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem could be achieved.
