Cyprus FM says no information on 23 Cypriots in quake stricken areas
Nicosia, Dec 27 (CNA) A total of 169 Cypriots were in southern Asia
when a tsunami devastated popular tourist resorts on Sunday following
the world's biggest earthquake in 40 years, and a total of 23 are still
unaccounted for, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told CNA here Monday.
In a statement, the ministry said that it continued efforts, in
coordination with the Greek authorities and the Dutch presidency of the
European Union, to grant consular assistance to Cypriot nationals in
the areas affected by the tsunami, which was triggered by a quake with
a magnitude of 9.0 that erupted off the northern Indonesian coast.
