Government: UN statement confirms Papadopoulos' remarks

Nicosia, Oct 17 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides has said that a UN statement that UN agencies have been involved for decades in efforts to promote bi-communal reconciliation and to help prepare the environment for a normalization of the situation in Cyprus, confirms what Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos had said, that the UN had made available funds before a referendum on the island on a UN solution plan.

Nicosia, Oct 17 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has congratulated Greece on its election to the UN Security Council, as a non permanent member of the 15-member body.

''This is an excellent diplomatic success, the proof lies in the majority of votes Greece has secured for its election,'' Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said.

Cyprus seeks place in Guinness Book of Records

Paphos, Oct 17 (CNA) -- Cyprus is seeking to secure a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the biggest "loukoumi" in the world, a mouth-watering sweet made of sugar, corn-flour and almonds, usually eaten as a dessert.

[04] Cyprus seeks place in Guinness Book of Records - CORRECTION

    1330:CYPPRESS:03

In paragraph two of a dispatch entitled "Cyprus seeks place in Guinness Book of Records" the weight of the loumoumi should read two tons and 718 kilos and not 2.718 kg, as mentioned.

    The corrected story follows:

Cyprus seeks place in Guinness Book of Records

Paphos, Oct 17 (CNA) -- Cyprus is seeking to secure a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the biggest "loukoumi" in the world, a mouth-watering sweet made of sugar, corn-flour and almonds, usually eaten as a dessert.
