Spokesman: Turkey intended to upgrade pseudostate at EU - OIC Forum

Nicosia, Oct 2 (CNA) -- Turkey's decision to cancel the European Union - Organization of Islamic Conference Joint Forum, proves the real Turkish intentions to upgrade the status of the Turkish Cypriot pseudostate in Cyprus' Turkish occupied north, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides told CNA.

He also noted that the government of the Republic of Cyprus, under the guidance of Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos had taken the necessary measures on time and had outlined clearly its positions on this issue before the EU.

The spokesman stressed that Turkey's non - compliance with the EU's recommendations ''constitutes a provocation towards the EU itself and the international community''.

Qatar's Nasser Al - Attiyah leads the Troodos Rally

Nicosia, Oct 2 (CNA) --- Nasser Al - Attiyah from Qatar with a Subaru Impreza leads the Troodos Rally, which takes place here and is the penultimate round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC).

Al - Attiyah is followed by Cypriot Andreas Peratikos in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 6, who is 1:39.13 minutes behind after the conclusion of the first six special stages.

Cyprus will attend 5th EuroMed Conference of Ministers for Industry

Nicosia, Oct 2 (CNA) -- Cyprus' Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism George Lillikas departs tomorrow for Caserta, Italy, heading a three-member delegation, that will attend the 5th Euro- Mediterranean Conference of Ministers for Industry.

An official press release said the Conference, organized by the EU Dutch Presidency in cooperation with the Italian Government will take place October 3 - 4, 2004.
