A press release issued by the Treasury Department said ''in another step to protect the integrity of the US financial system and identify rogue financial institutions, the US Department of the Treasury today (yesterday) designated two foreign banks First Merchant Bank of the 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus' ('TRNC') and Infobank of Belarus as financial institutions of 'primary money laundering concern,' pursuant to Section 311 of the USA PATRIOT Act.'' Lillikas said that two Greek Cypriot lorries passed yesterday afternoon to Cyprus' Turkish occupied areas and returned to the government-controlled areas carrying watermelons while the Turkish Cypriot truck travelled to the government-controlled areas carrying gray soil. He noted that the Cyprus government has ascertained that both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots are interested in trade transactions between them, noting that on behalf of the Cyprus Republic the whole procedure goes on smoothly and according to the EU regulation. He assured that the government will do everything possible ''to facilitate these transactions because we believe that they bring the two communities closer and create a positive environment and conditions that will help finding a solution to the Cyprus problem that is our ultimate goal.''
