[01] Cyprus President leaves for Spain and Portugal0900:CYPPRESS:01Cyprus President leaves for Spain and Portugal Nicosia, Jun 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos leaves today for Spain and Portugal, where he will pay working visits. During his stay in Madrid President Papadopoulos will meet with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. He will later attend a lunch banquet offered at the La Zarzuela Palace by HM King of Spain Juan Carlos and HM Queen Sofia in honour of President Papadopoulos and First Lady Fotini. On Wednesday, June 23, thw Cyprus President will be in Lisbon, where he will meet with President of Portugal Jorge Sampaio and Prime Minister of Portugal Jose Barroso. Cyprus Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides told CNA that the President Papadopoulo's agenda in both countries would mainly include bilateral relations and ways to enhance them, EU issues as well as the Cyprus issue. President Papadopoulos will be accompanied by First Lady Fotini, Foreign Minister George Iacovou and Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President Tasos Tzionis. According to the preliminary programme, at 1300 tomorrow (local time), Cyprus President will meet the Spanish Prime Minister. Talks will follow with the participation of the two countries' delegations. He will later depart for the La Zarzuela Palace, where Spanish Royals will offer lunch in honour of Cyprus President and his wife Fotini. On Wednesday, the Cypriot delegation will be in Lisbon, where at 11 local time President Papadopoulos will meet with Portugal's President. An hour later he is scheduled to have a private meeting with Prime Minister Barroso. Talks will follow between Cyprus and Portugal official delegations. Papadopoulos and Barroso will give a joint press conference at 12.45 and at 1300 they will continue the talks during a working lunch. The Congress will be followed by an Advanced Course in Fetal Medicine, to be held June 22-26. The Congress, organised by the Fetal Medicine Foundation and presided over by Cypriot Professor Kypros Nicolaides, deals with latest developments in prenatal detection of fatal abnormalities and chromosome defects, intra-uterine surgical operations for the treatment of the fetus as well as the prediction and prevention of serious problems of pregnancy such as premature labour, pre-eclampsia and diabetes. [04] Papadopoulos:EU constitution a tool for Cyprus1440:CYPPRESS:04Papadopoulos: EU constitution a tool for Cyprus Larnaca, Jun 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said here today that the newly-approved constitution for the European Union was an additional tool with regard to efforts to settle the question of Cyprus in that the constitution that would emerge from negotiations should be consistent with the EU constitution. Speaking on departure for working visits to Spain and Portugal, Papadopoulos also said that the change in the new government in Turkey, after decades of intransigence, has to be and was recognised in the EU summit conclusions.
