Nicosia, May 29 (CNA) Presenting what has been described by their producer as the best material they have written in five years, rock band Scorpions gave a live concert for the first time in Cyprus last night.

Cyprus President and FM hold meetings with EU-LATAM leaders in Mexico

Nicosia, May 29 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos held a number of meetings with EU and Latin American leaders during the sidelines of the EU-Latin American and Caribbean Summit which ended on Friday at Guadalajara, Mexico.

An official statement said President Papadopoulos met European Commission President Romano Prodi and conferred with EU and LATAM heads of states.

Cyprus Foreign Minister George Iacovou, who accompanies President Papadopoulos, met his Mexican counterpart Luis Ernesto Derbez where he explained the priorities of the Cyprus government, the solution to the Cyprus problem and the islands accession to the EU, the latter aim having been achieved.

He said the successful economic development of Cyprus could be used as an example for developing LATAM countries with which Cyprus maintains traditionally friendly ties, adding that Cyprus will constitute a voice of support for these countries in the EU.

Derbez thanked Iacovou for Cyprus willingness to support the views of the Mexican government within the EU and expressed the hope that relations between the two countries will be strengthened.
