Nicosia, Feb 22 (CNA) -- Pope John Paul II urged parties involved in Cyprus negotiations to ''spare no effort in hastening the reunification'' of Cyprus.

''The Catholic Church lends her full support to activities aimed at restoring peace and bringing about reconciliation,'' AFP quoted the Pope as saying, in his welcome remarks to Turkey's new ambassador to the Holy See, Osman Durak.
