    Belgian Deputy Prime Minister to visit Cyprus

    Nicosia, Feb 10 (CNA) -- Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Louis Michel will pay an official visit to Cyprus next week, at the invitation of Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Georgios Iacovou.

    Eckhard announces schedule of talks

    United Nations, Feb 10 (CNA) - The objective of the negotiations which are due to resume on Tuesday at UN headquarters would be to put a completed text to referenda in April 2004, in time for a reunited Cyprus to accede to the European Union on 1 May 2004, the UN Secretary-General's Spokesman Fred Eckhard said.

    In his daily briefing, the Spokesman outlined the meetings that will be held today, the joint meeting at 16:00 local time of the Greek Cypriot side and the Turkish Cypriot side with the Secretary-General, adding they will go on as long as the parties feel it is useful to talk.

    Yoschka Fischer to pay one-day visit to Cyprus

    Berlin, Feb 10 (CNA) -- German Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoschka Fischer will be visiting Cyprus on February 17.

    Sources in Berlin told CNA that Fischer has included Cyprus in his tour of the region.

    Greek Parliament ratifies Accession Treaty

    Athens, Feb 10 (CNA) -- Greece's Parliament ratified here tonight the Accession Treaty of the ten new states, including Cyprus, to officially join the European Union on 1 May 2004.

    Only the Communist Party (KKE) voted against EU's enlargement. The other three parties in the Greek Parliament, namely the ruling socialist PASOK, the main opposition New Democracy party and the Leftist Coalition and Progress Party voted in favour.
