Iacovou says EU mechanisms sparse in solving differences

Nicosia, Sep 6 (CNA) - Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Georgios Iacovou said difference-solving mechanisms among EU member states and between members and acceding countries left much to be desired.

Addressing the meeting of EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Riva del Garda, Italy, Iacovou said that in the case of Cyprus and Turkey, the latter is in violation of its obligations before the EU regarding the Turkey-EU customs union, with the signing of the so-called "customs union framework agreement" with the regime in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus.

Nicosia, Sep 6 (CNA) - Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos said today that a great part of the island's cultural heritage belongs to the island today as a result of UNESCO's efforts, adding that from the depths of history Cyprus belongs to those countries that have a significant culture and a bright cultural tradition and heritage.
