Olympic Truce proclamation signed in Cyprus

Nicosia, Apr 7 (CNA) -- At the presence of only one Turkish Cypriot politician, the General Secretary of the Patriotic Unity Party Alpay Durduran, who managed to cross the dividing line to pass to the UN-controlled area, the Olympic Truce proclamation was signed here yesterday.

Rauf Denktash's illegal regime in the Turkish-occupied northern part of the island hindered other representatives of Turkish Cypriot political parties and other Turkish Cypriots invited to attend the event organised at the Ledra Palace hotel by the Association of Social Reform (OPEK).

Nicosia, Apr 7 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

Tuesday and Wednesday: 8/4/2003 to 9/4/2003 ---------------------- Fair weather with some patchy cloud. Light northwesterly to northeasterly winds in the morning, becoming light to moderate southeasterly to southwesterly in the afternoon. State of sea slight to moderate.

Maximum temperature: around 22C inland and over coastal areas Minimum temperature: 9C inland and around 12C over coastal areas.

Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 10/4/2003 to 11/04/2003 -------------------------------- Mainly fine with local cloud. Small increase in temperature is expected.

Greek EU Presidency prepared draft reply to Gul

Athens, Apr 7 (CNA) --- The European Union Greek Presidency has rejected Turkish demands to change the wording in the Accession Protocol that Cyprus will sign next week in Athens, saying the contents of the Protocol reflects the agreed position of the 15 member states on the Republic's EU membership.
