AKEL and United Cyprus to continue efforts for settlement

Nicosia, Apr 6 (CNA) - Delegations of Greek Cypriot AKEL and Turkish Cypriot United Cyprus party, under their General Secretaries Demetris Christofias and Izzet Izcan, met yesterday in Nicosia and reaffirmed their determination to continue efforts for a peaceful settlement of the Cyprus problem.

Speaking after the meeting, which was held at AKEL's offices, Christofias said they exchanged views and assessments on the UN chief's efforts to solve the problem and ''the failure of this effort due to the stance of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash''. He said ''we expressed our regret because a solution was not achieved on the basis of the Annan plan''.
