    Annan urges Cyprus parties to say yes to referenda

    United Nations, Mar 5 (CNA) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has said the Security Council is very supportive of the efforts for a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus and urged the leaders of the two communities to go to The Hague and say "yes" to 30 March referenda.

    T/C Socialist Party condemns planting of bombs during rally

    Nicosia, Mar 5 (CNA) -- The Turkish Cypriot Socialist Party of Cyprus (SPC) has condemned the barbarians and mass murderers in the occupied north of the island, who planted two high explosive bombs during last weeks mass rally.

    If the bombs had exploded, they would have killed thousands who took part in the rally, says the SPC in a statement, adding the official powers have neither condemned, nor explained this barbaric act.

    National Council to confer again Saturday

    Nicosia, Mar 5 (CNA) -- The National Council exchanged views today about a UN peace plan and discussed the latest developments in the Cyprus question, ahead of Monday's meeting between President Tassos Papadopoulos and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in The Hague.

    Speaking after today's Council meeting, that lasted over four hours, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides said the Council will meet again on Saturday morning, after President Papadopoulos confers with Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis tomorrow in Athens.

    Cyprus ranks third in EU citizens preference for accession

    Brussels, Mar 5 (CNA) -- Cyprus is among the first countries preferred by European citizens for accession to the European Union, (EU), according to the final results of the Autumn 2002 Eurobarometer opinion survey, published on Tuesday.

    The Eurobarometer also showed a significant increase in the positive replies by EU member-states regarding Cyprus accession to the EU since the last opinion survey conducted in May 2002.
