National Council discusses UN Chiefs revised Cyprus plan

Nicosia, Dec 11 (CNA) The National Council discussed in a marathon session here Tuesday night UN Secretary-General Kofi Annans revised document for a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem.

Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou told reporters that there would be no further statement other than President Glafcos Clerides will depart on Wednesday for Copenhagen accompanied by at least six of the eight political parties represented in the top advisory body to the President on the handling of the Cyprus problem.

He said the New Horizons Party decided not to accompany President Clerides while the Ecologists Environmentalists Movement will announce their decision later tonight.

The Spokesman avoided answering a question on what the National Council decided during its five-and-a-half-hour meeting.

The New Horizons and the Ecologists Movement are represented with one deputy each in the 56-seat House of Representatives.

The other six parties which will accompany Clerides are the leftwing AKEL, rightwing Democratic Rally (DISY), centre-right Democratic Party (DIKO), Social Democrats Movement (KISOS), United Democrats (EDI) and ADIK.
