UN has no objection to dealing with a Denktash representative

    by Apostolis Zoupaniotis

United Nations, Dec 10 (CNA) UN Secretary General's Spokesman Fred Eckhard said the Secretary General has no objection to dealing with anyone that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash and his delegation might designate to negotiate on his (Denktash's) behalf, noting this was not necessarily an obstacle.

Replying to questions during his daily briefing on the details of Kofi Annan's revised plan on Cyprus submitted today, in the light of Denktashs reaction that it was an old plan, Eckhard said he was not going to comment on any statements by either of the parties, nor on the substance of what is going on.

There will not be any summary, any executive summary of the revised plan submitted to the Security Council, therefore all the discussions taking place now are strictly confidential and I have no information on how many changes or how extensive the changes in the revised document have been made, Eckhard said.

Asked if a representative of Denktash could sign the agreement, Eckhard said, anyone who is delegated by the Turkish Cypriot side can sign as far as we are concerned.
