    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Apr 8 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Ôuesday and Wednesday: 9/4/2002 to 10/4/2002

    Ôhe weather will be mainly fine with some temporal cloud. The wind will prevail during day time gentle southwest to northwest 3 to 4bf and the sea will be slight to moderate. During night time the wind will prevail light northwest to northeast 2 to 3bf and the state of sea will be generally slight. The temperature will range form 22 inland to 24 degrees C over the coastal areas and around 16 over the highest peaks of Troodos range. The minimum will range from 6 degrees over the highest peaks of Troods range to 11 inland and over the coast areas.

    Outlook on Thursday and Friday: 11/4/2002 to 12/4/2002

    On Thursday the weather will gradually become partly cloudy and some showers are expected mainly over the mountains. The temperature will note a small rise.

    On Friday the weather will be mainly fine. The temperature will note a small further rise.

    Cyprus makes representations about Israeli behaviour

    Nicosia, Apr 8 (CNA) - The Cyprus government, through its Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou, has condemned the stance of the Israeli authorities against a House of Representatives delegation that had flown to Israel over the weekend in order to go to Ramallah to give Yasser Arafat a House resolution condemning Israeli attacks against the Palestinians, but was sent straight back to Cyprus.

    Cyprus journalists protest to Sharon

    Nicosia, Apr 8 (CNA) -- The Union of Cyprus Journalists (UCJ) strongly protested today to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon about "the arbitrary prohibition of five Cypriot journalists and a delegation of the Cyprus House of Representatives to enter Israel yesterday after arriving at Ben Gurion airport," in Tel Aviv.

    In a letter to Sharon, UCJ says "the Cypriot journalists and parliamentarians were confined by Israeli Police for many hours until they were obliged to take the plane back to Cyprus and their passports were stamped as prohibited visitors to Israel as if they were criminals."

    Israel justifies decision to deny entry to Cypriot deputies

    Nicosia, Apr 8 (CNA) -- Israel has defended its decision not to allow entry into the country of a parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, seeking to meet Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.

    A statement by the Israeli Embassy here said the decision to visit Ramallah was made without prior coordination with Israel and added that it was pointed out to the deputies that they would not be allowed to enter a restricted military area.

    India committed to Cyprus' sovereignty

    Nicosia, Apr 8 (CNA) - Indian Minister of State for External Affairs, Omar Abdullah, has reaffirmed his country's deep commitment to Cyprus' security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting that India supports the enforcement of the UN Security Council's resolutions on Cyprus.

    Speaking at a joint press conference with Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Abdullah also noted that India and Cyprus "are trying to ensure that Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will be able to make his visit to Cyprus sometime this year".

    UN Adviser notes ground for optimism for Cyprus settlement

    Nicosia, Apr 8 (CNA) - The UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto has expressed the conviction that there are grounds for optimism in reaching a solution to the Cyprus problem, pointing out that the interests of all concerned lead him to believe that they should want a solution. He also said he was convinced that solutions were available to all the problems.

    In statements during a press conference at Ledra Palace, in the UN-controlled buffer zone, the UN official said the grounds for optimism have to be tempered with the concern that exists because of the difficulty that is arising with the capacity of the leaders coming together and making the kind of progress on the substance that is needed.

    Cyprus House President to send protest to Knesset speaker

    Nicosia, Apr 8 (CNA) - Cyprus House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias will send a letter of protest to his Israeli counterpart Abraham Burg, in which he will express the House's strong protest against the "inadmissible act" of the Israeli authorities to prohibit a Cypriot six-member cross-parliamentary delegation to enter Israel and visit Ramallah to meet with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

    Limassol, Apr 8 (CNA) - Cyprus Communication and Works Minister Averof Neophytou has expressed the government's determination to upgrade the prestige of Cyprus Flag and Cyprus' Maritime Administration and noted that Cyprus has today one of the largest ship registries in the world and is a leading third-party ship management centre.
