Verheugen: Turkey should play constructive role in solving Cyprus
problem
Athens, Mar 21 (CNA) -- The Cyprus Republic will accede to the European
Union as long as it fulfils the relevant EU criteria and its accession
course is in no way connected with EU - Turkey relations, European
Commissioner made today clear in Athens, where he met members of the
Greek parliamentary Foreign and Defence Committee and Greek Foreign
Minister George Papandreou.
Verheugen said that a solution to the Cyprus problem should provide for
a unified state with a strong central government, capable of
implementing the acquis communautaire throughout Cyprus.
