Clerides hopes direct talks will signal start of prolific process

Nicosia, Mar 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides has expressed hope that the UN-led direct talks between the leaders of the two communities of the island, which began last January in Nicosia "will signal the start of a prolific process by which real progress is made."

Receiving today the credentials of the Republic of Korea's new Ambassador to Cyprus Han Tae Kyu, who is based in Athens, President Clerides pointed out that the Greek Cypriot community's "willingness to resolve the Cyprus problem has not thus far been met with the analogous response by the Turkish Cypriot leadership, which continues to envisage a solution outside the framework of UN resolutions."
