    Cyprus submits report to UN on fight against terrorism

    Nicosia, Jan 9 (CNA) -- The Republic of Cyprus has submitted its report to the UN pursuant to Security Council resolution 1373 on the fight against terrorism. Cyprus stresses that the fight against international crime, particularly terrorism, through international cooperation is one of its foreign policy top priorities.

    Nicosia, Jan 9 (CNA) - Most of Cyprus was covered in a blanket of snow today, as a spell of cold weather coming from southern Russia swept over the island, bringing temperatures down to around 5 degrees Celsius inland and around zero over the mountains.

    Nicosia, Jan 9 (CNA) - Cyprus' total imports and exports rose during the first eight months of 2001, compared to the same period of 2000, according to official figures issued here today. The trade deficit accounted for 1.299,1 million pounds (1 CY pound is trading at approximately 1,5 US dollars), compared to 1.108,8 million pounds in Jan-Aug 2000.

    Excavations in Paphos district unearth early faience

    Nicosia, Jan 9 (CNA) - Excavations carried out by the Lemba Archaeological Research Centre of the University of Edinburgh at an ancient burial site in Souskiou-Laona, in the Paphos district, have provided an insight to the character of grave goods and the rituals of the time, and have unearthed what is probably the earliest known imported faience on Cyprus, and for that matter any Mediterranean island.
