US remains committed to UN effort for just Cyprus settlement

Washington, Dec 20 (CNA) -- US President George Bush has said the United States remains committed to the UN efforts to find a just and lasting settlement to the Cyprus problem.

President Bush submitted to the Speaker of the US House of Representatives and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations his bimonthly report "on progress toward a negotiated solution of the Cyprus question", covering the period October 1 through November 30, 2001.

In a letter accompanying the report, President Bush said "the United Nations continued in its efforts to sustain the proximity talks that started in December 1999. The United States remains committed to the United Nations effort to find a just and lasting

Nicosia, Dec 20 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

Tuesday and Wednesday: 21/12/2001 to 22/12/2001

Locally partly cloudy at times with light to moderate winds, from westerly direction during Friday and from Southeasterly direction during Saturday. The temperatures will range 4C to 14C inland and from 6C to 17C on the coast.

Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 23/12/2001 to 24/12/2001

Partly cloudy with risk of isolated showers and with maximum temperature reaching the 18-19C.
