Weather forecast for Cyprus

Nicosia, Dec 10 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

Tuesday and Wednesday: 11/12/2001 to 12/12/2001

The weather will be mainly cloudy with showers and probable thunderstorms, while light snow showers are expected over the highest peaks of Troodos. The wind will prevail southwest to west gentle 3 to 4 bf during day time but light 2 to 3 bf northwest during night time. The state of sea will be generally slight to moderate.

The minimum temperature will range from 1 degree over the highest peaks of Troodos to 9 degrees over the coastal areas and the maximum temperature from 4 over the highest peaks of Troodos to 16 over the coastal areas.

Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 13/12/2001 to 14/12/2001

Showery with probable thunderstorms and snow showers over the highest peaks of Troodos.

The temperature will note a small increase.

Sea Temperature: 18C

MPs call for respect of EU accession "road map"

Nicosia, Dec 10 (CNA) -- Chairmen of the parliamentary European Affairs Committees of Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia (the six countries that are negotiating accession on the basis of the conclusions of the 1997 Luxembourg European Council) have expressed the expectation that during the EU Spanish presidency, January - June 2002, the EU will pursue the final goal of closing the remaining chapters of the acquis communautaire in accordance with the "road map" set out in the Nice Summit as the framework for the successful completion of the enlargement process.
