France - Verheugen welcome resumption of direct peace talks

Nicosia, Dec 7 (CNA) -- France supports efforts to reach a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement in Cyprus, consistent with UN relevant resolutions, a spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry has said, who also welcomed the start of direct talks next month.

Annan has no plans at present to visit Cyprus

Nicosia, Dec 7 (CNA) -- UN Secretary General's spokesman Fred Eckhard said yesterday that at this time there are no plans for Kofi Annan to travel to Cyprus in January, when UN-led direct talks between President Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash are scheduled to begin.
