    [01] Greek Defence Minister - Cyprus

    Nicosia, Sep 30 (CNA)-- Greece's National Defence Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos arrives in Cyprus this afternoon to represent the Greek government in tomorrow's celebrations on the island for the Independence Day of the Republic of Cyprus.

    The Greek Minister will attend the October 1st military parade in Nicosia marking the 41th anniversary of Cyprus' independence from the British colonial rule. President Glafcos Clerides will take the salute.

    During his brief stay on the island, Tsohatzopoulos, who will arrive on a Greek Airforce transport plane, will be received by President Clerides and have meetings with Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and Defence Minister Socrates Hasikos.

    He will leave tomorrow afternoon. CNA/RM/NMA/2001

    [02] Cyprus - Bicommunal youth festival

    Nicosia, Sep 30 (CNA) -- Greek and Turkish Cypriot youth groups that have launched the campaign "I want to meet my friend", organise today a bicommunal youth festival, where old friends from both communities will have the chance to meet again.

    According to a press release issued by the organisers, the campaign aims at rejoining old friends from both communities of the island and recognizing each community's anguish. CNA/RM/NMA/2001
