[01] Overseas Cypriots - Congress - Opening ceremony

Nicosia, Aug 27 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides has stressed that the Greek Cypriot side's readiness to respond to invitations for peace talks on the Cyprus problem cannot be interpreted as weakness and lack of determination to pursue a settlement within the parameters of UN relevant resolutions, for a common country with one sovereignty, one international personality and one citizenship.

Opening the 12th five-day International Congress of overseas Cypriots, last night in Nicosia, President Clerides assured in his message, read by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, that the government was pursuing a settlement that will ensure the survival of the people of Cyprus, the reunification of the island in conditions of security and the freedom for its inhabitants.
