    [02] UEFA Cup - Draw - Cyprus Teams

    Nicosia, Aug 24 (CNA) -- A difficult task awaits Apollon of Limassol, which after today's draw for the first round of the UEFA Cup, will clash with Ajax FC of the Netherlands in Amsterdam, while Olympiakos Football club of Nicosia will face at home Club Brugge of Belgium.

    The first leg matches will take place on September 13 and the second leg on September 27.

    After today's draw for the fist round of the 2001-2002 UEFA Cup in Monaco, Apollon which qualified after beating yesterday Albanian S.K. of Tirana with 3-1 will compete in group 3 with Ajax FC and Parma of Italy.

    Olympiakos after yesterday's victory in Hungary over Dunafer with 4-2 will participate in the 6th group along with Leeds United of Britain and Paris Saint Germain of France.

    UEFA second round matches will take place on October 18 and on November 1st. CNA/GS/MM/2001

    [03] President Clerides - UN peace process

    Nicosia, Aug 24 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides does not expect UN top envoy on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto to put forward any papers relating to the peace talks during his visit to Cyprus next week, but cannot rule out further questioning by de Soto on issues of substance.

    The President said today he would assess the situation when the stance of the Turkish Cypriot side becomes clear, if and when UN Secretary General Kofi Annan calls fresh talks.

    [04] Cyprus - Malta - EU

    Nicosia, Aug 24 (CNA) -- Malta and Cyprus discussed here today tax reforms with regard to their attempt to align legislation with the European Union laws and regulations.

    "We had an exchange of views and ideas about the adoption of legislation by our parliaments, I will take back with me ideas and knowledge of a different way that things can be done," Maltese Minister of Finance John Dalli said here today, after a meeting with the Chairman of the House Finance Committee Markos Kyprianou.
