Nicosia, Aug 13 (CNA) -- The Central Bank of Cyprus introduced today a 0,50 per cent reduction in the Lombard interest rate, bringing it down to 6,50 per cent, and an increase in the margin of fluctuation of the Cyprus pound against the euro from 2,25 per cent to 15 per cent.

Central Bank Governor Afxentis Afxentiou said last Friday this move was meant to curtail an increasing trend for loans in foreign currency, especially in euro, and to avert possibly economic depression.

Weather mainly fine with patchy cloud ove the mountains in the afternoon.

wind lighty to moderate seabreezes in the afternoon, variable light at night.

Temperature around normal, maximum inland 37C, minimum 21C.

Maximum on coasts (31-33)C, minimum (20-22)C

Outlook for Thursday and Friday 16/08/2001 to 17/08/2001

No significant change in the weather and temperature is expected.

Sea Temperature: 26C
