Arrivals went up by 5.49 per cent, to reach 1.170.326 tourists compared with 1.109.434 last year, and revenue from the tourist industry rose by 11.4 per cent, to 490.126.584 compared with 441.408.121 the same period in 2000. According to the Department of Antiquities, the first phase of a trial excavation on the north east of the southern town of Limassol uncovered the foundations of an early Christian timber-roofed basilica, the first single aisled basilica ever found on the island, and the beddings of the floors.
