    [03] Cyprus President - Outgoing House President

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides today received outgoing House of Representatives President Spyros Kyprianou, on the occasion of the latter's retirement from active political life and discussed with him developments in the Cyprus problem and other issues.

    Later on in the day, Kyprianou met with parliamentary reporters and told them that Cyprus would be going through a tough period, adding that over the next few years the political leadership, the government, the House and the Cyprus people would have to carefully observe ongoing developments.     [04] Missing persons - More remains identified

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) - The exhumed remains of another 36 persons, killed in the summer of 1974 when Turkish troops invaded Cyprus, have been identified through the DNA method, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced here today, bringing the number of remains identified since the summer of 1999 to 108.

    As the process of exhumation and identification of remains of the 1974 Turkish invasion continues, the government has renewed its appeal to relatives of missing persons to come forward to give blood and any information that might be of use to the scientists carrying out this arduous task, to help them identify the rest of exhumed remains and any other remains that may be exhumed in the future.     [05] Cyprus' EU Chief Negotiator - Meetings

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) - Cyprus' Chief Negotiator for accession with the European Union George Vassiliou is in Athens today, to participate in a discussion organised by the International Relations Institute of the Panteon University on "The Greco-Turkish Approach and the Cyprus Problem".

    Tomorrow, he will fly to Brussels to take part in a round table discussion organised by the British Chamber in Brussels, on "The Course of Negotiations, EU Enlargement and Consequences on the European Economy". CNA/RG/MM/2001

    [06] President of Kenya - Official Visit - Arrival

    Larnaca, Jun 6 (CNA) - President of the Republic of Kenya Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi arrived here today on a four-day official visit, accompanied by a multi- party delegation that includes the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Minister of Education and the Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry.

    Arap Moi was met at the airport by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kassoulides, at a special ceremony at Larnaca Airport as the national flags of the two countries fluttered in the afternoon breeze and security services personnel kept a discreet but watchful eye on the high level dignitary.     [07] Interior Minister - UN - Habitat II

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) - Interior Minister Christodoulos Christodoulou said today that "Cyprus should be reunited and all its inhabitants, Greek and Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Latins and Maronites should be entitled to enjoy human rights and offered with an opportunity to cooperate with each other, in order to build their own common, peaceful and prosperous future".

    Speaking at the Special Session of the UN General Assembly for an Overall Review and Appraisal of the Implementation of the Habitat Agenda, Christodoulou said the Republic of Cyprus "has decided to increase its voluntary contribution by 50%, for the further promotion of the Habitat Agenda".     [08] Commerce Minister - Balkan Chambers

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) - Cyprus' Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Nicos Rolandis, addressing the General Assembly of the Association of the Balkan Chambers (ABC) today in Nicosia, said that "every effort towards the development of cooperation between the Chambers and the businesses of our region with businesses in third countries" is very important.

    Rolandis said that "the government of Cyprus recognises the significant role that the Chambers play and will be by your side, supporting these efforts", and noted that "we encourage the business community of Cyprus to establish alliances with the foreign entrepreneurs for a better transfer of knowledge and the best utilisation of the productive resources of the area".
