    [03] Greek Cypriot - Abduction

    Nicosia, May 15 (CNA) - Greek Cypriot Costas Dalitis, aged 74, who was abducted on Sunday by Turkish occupation troops while driving his motorcycle on the Larnaca - Nicosia road, was taken to a so-called "court" today in the occupied north and was "remanded in custody" for three days on alleged charges of trespassing the buffer zone.

    According to UNFICYP spokesman Dezso Kiss, Dalitis, who is due to face an illegal "trial" on May 17, was visited this morning by UNFICYP's civilian police and a doctor, who verified that the abducted Greek Cypriot is in good health. CNA/RM/RG/2001

    [04] Cyprus - EU - Association Council

    Brussels, May 15 (CNA) - The pre-accession assistance to Cyprus, including support for operations to contribute to the reconciliation of the two Cypriot communities, were examined during the EU - Cyprus Association Council's 19th meeting held in Brussels today.

    According to a joint communique issued after the meeting, chaired by Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and his Swedish counterpart Anna Lindh, the Association Council welcomed the proposal made by the Cypriot side for establishing a joint Consultative Committee, which would allow cooperation between the regions of the two parties.     [05] Cyprus - Iranian Minister of Commerce

    Nicosia, May 15 (CNA) - Minister of Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Shariatmadari arrives in Cyprus on May 17 for a three-day official visit.

    The Iranian official will attend on Thursday evening the opening ceremony of the 26th Cyprus State Fair and on Friday will be received by President Glafcos Clerides and later on by House of Representatives President Spyros Kyprianou. CNA/RM/RG/2001

    [06] Cyprus - Greek Alternate Minister of Development

    Nicosia, May 15 (CNA) - Greek Alternate Minister of Development Alexandros Kalafatis arrives here tomorrow on a three-day official visit on the occasion of the 26th Cyprus International State Fair, to take place in Nicosia.

    During his stay, Kalafatis will be received by President Glafcos Clerides and meet with Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis and President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vassilis Rologis. CNA/RM/RG/2001

    [07] Cyprus - Libyan Minister - Meetings

    Nicosia, May 15 (CNA) - A Cyprus-Libya Joint Committee will meet within the next few months aiming at reimbursing commercial relations between the two countries while a team of Libyan businessmen is expected to visit Cyprus, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis said here today.

    Speaking after a meeting with Minister of Justice and General Security of Libya Abdulrahman Alabbar, who is in Cyprus on a four-day official visit, Rolandis said a bilateral commercial relation between Cyprus and Libya had been terminated but now should be reinstated. CNA/RM/RG/2001

    [08] Cyprus - EU - Association Council - Press conference

    Brussels, May 15 (CNA) - The Foreign Ministers of the European Union member states today congratulated Cyprus on its high level of harmonisation with the acquis communautaire, while the Swedish presidency reiterated that a solution to the Cyprus question is not a precondition to the island's accession into the EU.

    This position was stated during the EU-Cyprus Association Council held in Brussels today, chaired by Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and his Swedish counterpart Anna Lindh. CNA/NM/RM/RG/2001
