    Social Democrats Movement - Berlin

Nicosia, May 8 (CNA) -- Turkey would be welcomed in the European Union once it complies fully with the criteria common to all candidate countries and terminate the illegal occupation of Cyprus' northern areas, Vasos Lyssarides, president of Cyprus' Social Democrats Movement, has said.

Addressing the 5th Congress of the party of European Socialists in Berlin, Lyssarides said EU principles of social justice and equality must be not only accepted but also implemented in Europe.

KEA - Interview - Parliamentary elections

    by Athina Arsalidou

Nicosia, May 8 (CNA) - The current situation in Cyprus does not satisfy the Eurodemocratic Renewal Party (KEA) which considers catalytic and decisive Cyprus' accession to the European Union (EU) for a Cyprus settlement, noting it would also enhance Greco-Turkish relations.

In an interview with CNA, KEA President Antonis Paschalides, candidate in the May 27 House of Representatives elections under the Social-Democrats Movement (KISOS) in the Famagusta district, said his party is not satisfied with the current situation in Cyprus adding that even though Turkey might be criticised at times for its stance no measures have been taken against Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash or Turkey. [03] United Democrats - Interview - Parliamentary elections

by Riana Magidou Nicosia, May 8 (CNA) -- The solution to the Cyprus question is a bicommunal bizonal federation, President of the United Democrats (EDI) party George Vassiliou has stated, pointing out that in a different case Cyprus will not be accepted as a member of the European Union.

In an interview with CNA, in view of the parliamentary elections to be held on 27 May 2001, Vassiliou noted that Cyprus' accession to the EU would prove to be a catalyst for a settlement of the Cyprus issue. He expressed conviction that his party will enter the new Parliament with three to four seats. In the previous elections EDI elected two deputies in the 56-member House. CNA/RM/GP/2001
