    [01] Agriculture Minister - Meeting - Mediterranean

    Nicosia, Apr 30 (CNA) - Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Minister, Costas Themistocleous will address a meeting here of the Bureau of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention, which will discuss the protection of the Mediterranean from pollution.

    The meeting begins on Thursday, May 3 in Nicosia and will continue until Saturday, an official statement said here Monday.

    [02] Cyprus President - Official Visit - Athens

    Nicosia, Apr 30 (CNA) - President Glafcos Clerides leaves for Athens on Wednesday on a two-day official visit during which he will meet Greek President Costis Stephanopoulos and Prime Minister Costas Simitis.

    The President will also confer with President of the Greek Parliament, Apostolos Kaklamanis, Athens Archbishop Christodoulos and Greek political party leaders, the honorary President of the New Democracy Party, Constantinos Mitsotakis and National Defence Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos.

    [03] Cyprus - Britain - Conference

    Nicosia, Apr 30 (CNA) -- British-Cypriot relations over the years are the subject of a three-day Conference, organized by a local higher education college, to be held in Nicosia between 4 - 6 May, entitled "Britain and Cyprus: Colonialism and its impact", with about 17 lectures from distinguished scholars from Britain, Cyprus, the US and Switzerland.

    Hubert Faustmann, assistant professor at Intercollege, has told CNA that the primary objective of the conference is a comprehensive historical and political analysis of British policy in Cyprus from 1878, when the Ottoman empire ceded Cyprus to Britain to the present day. CNA/RM/MM/2001

    Nicosia, Apr 30 (CNA) --The government believes that dialogue is the only option to help implement the vision of the people of the Middle East within the framework of a peace process.

    The government expressed today disapproval at the use of violence, irrespective of its origin, as this hampers efforts to bring about peace, security and stability in the region.
