    1635:CYPRESS:02 Cyprus - Egypt Business Association Nicosia, Mar 15 (CAN) -- The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Embassy Egypt in Cyprus, have jointly inaugurated the formation of the first Egyptian - Cypriot Business Association.

    The founding Assembly of the Association in its first meeting approved the Memorandum and Articles of the Association and elected the first Board of Directors for the years 2001 - 2003. CAN AG/MM/2001

    [03] Finance Minister - US

    Nicosia, Mar 15 (CNA) -- Cyprus Finance Minister Takis Klerides left today for the US for a series of meetings with a view to strengthen economic and trade ties between the two countries.

    He is due to meet Congressman Richard Armey, senior officers at the US Treasury and business representatives.

    [04] Cyprus Foreign Minister - Turkish Cypriot leader

    Nicosia, Mar 15 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides chastised today Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash for not giving the Turkish Cypriots the chance to participate in accession negotiations with the European Union and reap economic and other benefits from such participation.

    The minister's remarks were echoed by Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou who said Denktash is raising more obstacles to Turkish Cypriots wishing to come to the government-controlled southern areas of the Republic and to Greek Cypriots trying to go to the Turkish- occupied northern part of the island, saying this attitude will be raised in EU bodies.

    [05] Kasoulides - Borg - EU

    Nicosia, Mar 15 (CNA) -- The first phase of the European Union (EU)enlargement cannot take place without the inclusion of Cyprus, Maltese Foreign Minister Joseph Borg said here today, pointing out that advice from Cyprus to Malta regarding the process of harmonisation with the acquis communautaire, is of "immense value".

    Speaking after his meeting with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides, Borg, who arrived here yesterday for a three-day official visit, said his country supports a just solution to the Cyprus issue based on the relevant UN resolutions, while on his part Kasoulides said he and Borg discussed ways of utilizing their countries' cooperation in international fora.     [06] Ministers of Interior - Justice - Brussels

    Nicosia, Mar 15 (CNA) -- Ministers of Interior and Justice and Public Order Christodoulos Christodoulou and Nicos Koshis left today for Brussels to participate in a meeting of European Union ministers with their counterparts from candidate countries.

    The meeting, to take place in the margins of a Council meeting on Justice and Home Affairs matters, will deal with cooperation programmes to combat organized crime, with special emphasis on drug related problems, trading of human beings, immigration and asylum problems.

    [07] House President - Armenia

    Nicosia, Mar 15 (CNA) -- Cyprus House President Spyros Kyprianou, who is in Armenia on an official visit at the invitation of his Armenian counterpart, and Armenian President R. Kocharyan today expressed the wish to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Cyprus and Armenia and the respective Parliaments.

    Kocharyan suggested the establishment of a joint governmental committee aiming at promoting various issues of common interest, a proposal that Kyprianou will convey to President Glafcos Clerides as well as an invitation to President Clerides for an official visit to Armenia. CNA/CST/RM/MM/2001
