[02] Cyprus - Afghanistan - Cultural heritage
Nicosia, Mar 9 (CNA) – The Cyprus government today expressed its support to
appeals from the UN and UNESCO General Secretaries to Afghanistan's Taliban
not to destroy the country's cultural heritage.
Noting that Cyprus has its own experience with the destruction of its
cultural heritage in the areas of the island occupied by Turkey since 1974,
the government describes the Taliban's decision to destroy cultural
treasures that are not Islamic as "abhorable".
