[02] UNHCR official - Cyprus - Meetings
Nicosia, Feb 15 (CNA) - Until the end of this year it is expected that the
Cypriot authorities will be in a position to take over from the UNHCR
office in Nicosia the interviewing of people seeking political asylum.
Talking after talks in Nicosia, Director of the UNHCR Europe Bureau Anne-
Willem Bijleveld underlined that people should have access to territory and
that no asylum seekers should be sent back to countries from which they
left, two issues on which he received assurances from the Cyprus
government.

Minister of Commerce - Iranian parliamentary delegation
Nicosia, Feb 15 (CNA) - Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos
Rolandis and Head of the Cyprus-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group
Mohammad Bagher Nobakht today expressed the political will of the
governments and parliaments of the two countries to develop their bilateral
relations especially in the fields of commerce, industry and tourism.
Speaking after a meeting here with the Iranian delegation, visiting Cyprus
at the invitation of the House of Representatives, Rolandis said there is
room for the further enhancement of bilateral exchanges and underlined that
when Cyprus joins the European Union it will be the European country
closest to Iran and it could become the bridge for promoting Iranian
products to the Mediterranean and Europe.
