CNA/RG/MA/2001 1640:CYPPRESS:04[04] Cyprus - Tourist Guides 9th World ConventionNicosia, Jan 29 (CNA) -- Ôhe 9th World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations Convention opened here today, under the auspices of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Nicos Rolandis, with the participation of some 120 tourist guides from 18 countries.Opening the 5-day Convention, under the title "The 21st Century: Guiding for Peace", Rolandis underlined the role guides have on an island which heavily depends on tourism. He noted that last year nearly 2,7 million tourists visited Cyprus, an increase of 10.7% in comparison to 1999, and revenues from tourism increased to more than 1,9 billion US dollars.
