[01] House President - Cyprus problem

Nicosia, Jan 5 (CNA) -- Cyprus House President Spyros Kyprianou said the UN Security Council should convene to discuss the essence of the Cyprus question, in the light of Turkish designs to annex the Republic's northern Turkish- occupied areas and following statements by Turkey's premier Bulent Ecevit that expose Ankara's real objectives in maintaining its occupation forces on the island.

Speaking at a press conference here today, Kyprianou said the ongoing UN- led peace process, which has not yielded any fruit yet, should not be an obstacle in deciding to have a debate before the Security Council.
