Spokesman - US envoys - Peace talks
Nicosia, Jan 5 (CNA) -- US top envoys dealing with the Cyprus question will
be on the island on 8-9 January for talks with the Greek and Turkish
Cypriot sides in a bid to persuade the latter to accept an invitation to a
new round of proximity talks from UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
This is the first of a series of visits to Cyprus by special envoys ahead
of the planned new round of UN-led proximity talks. British special
representative will be on the island from 11-12 for contacts and UN
Secretary-General's Special Adviser for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto is due to
visit the island in the second part of the month.
