  • [04] AHEPA - Albright - Tziakourmas Nicosia, Jan 2 (CNA) - In a letter to US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, President of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) John Economy demands the immediate release of Greek Cypriot Panicos Tziakourmas who has been abducted and is being illegally detained in the Turkish occupied areas of the Republic. Economy adds that "the abduction of Tziakourmas comes on the heels of what appears to be a postponement of the sixth round of proximity talks" held between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities under the auspices of the United Nations, "due to the unacceptable demands of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash" for the recognition of his puppet regime.
