    [01] EU - Cyprus - Turkey

by Maria Myles Nicosia, Dec 24 (CNA)-- Turkey's partnership agreement makes it abundantly clear that the European Union expects Ankara to be constructive in the UN Cyprus peace effort and considers this obligation a priority but not necessarily a political criterion for the advancement of the country's accession course, western diplomatic sources close to the EU believe.

Speaking to CNA on condition of anonymity, they pointed out that the agreement offers the EU some leverage on Turkey with regard to its contribution to the UN Cyprus effort and considers it "inextricably linked" with the EU process. CNA/MM/MA/2000
