Nicosia, Nov 27 (CNA) - Cyprus Interior Minister Christodoulos Christodoulou today conveyed a request to the governments of Syria and Lebanon to visit their countries to discuss with his counterparts ways of enhancing cooperation in order to combat more effectively the problem of illegal immigrants who arrive on the island, mainly from countries in the Middle East.

Speaking after a meeting here with the Ambassadors of the two countries to Cyprus, Christodoulou said the problem has become more serious in the past few months and the trend is expected to continue in the next year, and noted that Syria and Lebanon fully understand the need of taking more effective measures.

Unstable weather with showers or thundrstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds will be southerly to southwesterly moderate to strong but very strong in and near thunderstorms. Ôhe sea will be rough but locally very rough.

Maximum temperature: 19C inland and aroung 21C over coast. Minimimum temperature:10C inland and around 12C over coast.

Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 30/11/2000 to 01/12/2000

Cloudy at times with local showers or thunderstorms. No significant change in temperature is expected.

Nicosia, Nov 27 (CNA) - A mosque, which was in the 16th century a Christian church, has been restored to its former glory with the backing of the local Greek Cypriot community, in the north western town of Polis Chrysohous.

"The presence of the Byzantine church in the 16th century, its transformation into a mosque and the acceptance of this situation for centuries proves the will of the two communities in Cyprus to live peacefully with each other," Minister of Communications and Works Averof Neofytou said at a ceremony to present the restored mosque.

Nicosia, Nov 27 (CNA) - Cyprus and India have signed a protocol providing for the promotion of cooperation in the fields of trade, industry, investments, agriculture, tourism, transport, science and technology.

According to an official announcement issued today, the protocol was signed by the Planning Bureau director Panicos Pouros and the Permanent Secretary at the Commerce Ministry of India L.V. Saptharishi.
