Nicosia, Nov 18 (CNA) - The number of arrivals in Cyprus covering all
categories of travellers reached 413.915 recording an increase of 10% for
September 2000 compared to the corresponding month last year, while for the
period January- September 2000 arrivals of travellers reached 2.814.622
compared to 2.501.482 in the corresponding period of 1999 recording an
increase of 12,5%.
According to a report issued by the Statistical Service, arrivals of
tourists reached 329.964 in September 2000 compared to 309.498 in the
corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 6,6%. For the
period January-September 2000 arrivals of tourists reached 2.158.385
compared to 1.961.179 in the corresponding period of 1999, recording an
increase of 10,1%.

Nicosia, Nov 18 (CNA) - An annual report on "Construction and Housing
Statistics" for the year 1999 has been published by the Statistical Service,
providing data on the output, capital formation, inputs, new dwellings
completed, building permits and price indices of labour cost and materials,
for the construction sector.
According to the report, the Construction sector in 1999 recorded a
negative rate of growth of 0,9%, compared to a negative rate of 0,3% in
1998, while gross output, at current market prices, increased by 2,3% and
reached 667 million Cyprus pounds in 1999, compared to 652 million in 1998.

[03] Cyprus - Excavation season - Neolithic site
Nicosia, Nov 18 (CNA) - The fourth and last excavation season at the
Neolithic site of Nissia at the coastal town of Paralimni has been
completed and has yielded a total of 28 houses, as well as vases, stone
tools, an amulet and an antler.
According to a press release issued by the Department of Antiquities of the
Ministry of Communications and Works, this year's excavations aim at the
removal of the sections for the exposure of the settlement houses and the
excavation of one house of the settlement for further research of the
phases of the settlement and the stratigraphy.

[04] Government Spokesman - Cyprus question
London, Nov 18 (CNA) - Turkey will not be able to integrate the northern
occupied by Turkish troops part of Cyprus, if the Republic accedes to the
European Union (EU) before a political settlement is achieved, Government
Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou reassured.
Speaking yesterday at a Conference entitled "Cyprus - 40 years from
independence", held in London, Papapetrou said that "if we reach Cyprus'
accession point and the political question is not yet settled, we cannot
but accede to the EU".
