[01] Cyprus Foreign Minister - Visits
Nicosia, Nov 14 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides leaves
this morning for Athens to be present at a meeting midday between President
Glafcos Clerides and Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis. The Cypriot
President arrived in Greece last Saturday.
The Cypriot and Greek leaders will discuss developments in the Cyprus
question after the fifth round of UN-led proximity talks that took place in
Geneva the first 10 days of November, aimed at reaching a settlement in
Cyprus, divided since Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37 percent of its
territory in 1974.

[02] Cyprus Church crisis - Major Synod
Nicosia, Nov 14 (CNA) -- The Patriarchs of Antioch and Alexandria and
Bishops from Greece and other Christian Orthodox Churches have come to
Cyprus to take part in a meeting of the Major Synod, called by the Primate
of the Church of Cyprus Archbishop Chrysostomos to examine homosexuality
allegations against Bishop of Limassol Athanasios.
It is not yet known whether the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus
will convene before the Major Synod to look into an investigation carried
out by a three-member Committee set up to examine the allegations against
Athanasios, one of the most popular high-ranking clerics on the island.

[03] Foreign Ministry - EU - Progress report
Nicosia, Nov 14 (CNA) - The Cyprus government has expressed full
satisfaction with a report the European Commission has issued on progress
in Cyprus' effort to join the EU, describing it "positive and favourable."
A statement by the Foreign Ministry said that criticism, in the report on
some delays and omissions, was done in good faith and is considered as a
reminder of the difficult effort ahead.

Foreign Minister - Cyprus peace effort
Larnaca, Nov 14 (CNA) - Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has
stressed the Greek Cypriot side will not accept the notion of rotating
presidency to be part of a comprehensive settlement, the UN is promoting
through the ongoing proximity talks, which started last December.
The Minister also said the National Council, the top advisory body to the
President on the handling of the Cyprus question, will study a UN non paper
given to the two sides at the recent round of talks in Geneva and decide
what to do.
