    Russian Orthodox Church - Cyprus

Nicosia, Oct 31 (CNA) -- The Orthodox churches of Cyprus and Russia maintain very friendly and brotherly relations while at the same time they cooperate in various church organisations such as the World Council of Churches, Father Vsevolod, of the Foreign Clerical Relations Department at the Moscow Patriarchate told CNA.

In an interview with CNA in Moscow, Father Vsevolod expressed opposition to the continuing division of Cyprus and regret over the plundering of churches and monasteries in the areas of the Republic occupied by Turkey since 1974.

    [04] Cyprus - Palestinian refugees

Nicosia, Oct 31 (CNA) - Cyprus has responded to a plea for further aid to Palestinian refugees after the recent crisis and has created its own aid programme, which includes technical help and the training of Palestinian officials and public servants, the Republic's representative to the UN fourth committee has said.

Speaking yesterday during a discussion on the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), George Kasoulides said Cyprus has had its own experience with refugees because of the 1974 Turkish invasion and occupation of 37 percent of its territory, after which it depended on international help both for the relief of refugees and to improve its economy.
