    by Maria Myles New York, Sep 20 (CNA) -- The UN-led proximity talks continue here Wednesday, after a day's break, with a morning meeting between President Glafcos Clerides and UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto.

    The President, after the meeting, will attend a lunch hosted by US Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke.

    [02] Cypriot composer - Composition prize

    Nicosia, Sep 20 (CNA) -- A 31-year old Cypriot musician and composer was awarded the Gaudeamus prize at the International Gadeamus Music Week 2000 held in Amsterdam.

    Yiannis Kyriakides, from Limassol, was awarded the prize for his composition "Spi - a conspiracy cantata" performed on September 8 in the "Bimhuis" by singers Stephie Butfrich and Aylet Harpaz.

    [03] Cyprus - Ireland - Fisheries - Forestry

    Nicosia, Sep 20 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Ireland will promote cooperation in the fields of fish-farming and forestry, Irish Deputy Minister Sugh Byrne announced today, after a meeting with Cypriot Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Costas Themistocleous.

    Byrne expressed his country's support for Cyprus' accession to the European Union and said Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern could be visiting the island in January next year.

    [04] Cyprus Meeting for Peace in Afghanistan

    Nicosia, Sep 20 (CNA) - The fourth Cyprus Meeting for Peace in Afghanistan was concluded in Nicosia over the weekend and assigned the Executive Committee to prepare groundwork for the establishment of a Grand National Assembly (GNA).

    The meeting was attended by over 80 Afghan delegates reflecting the diverse socio-political landscape of Afghanistan, and foreign diplomats from China, Cyprus, Egypt, France, India, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom, the UN Special Mission to Afghanistan (UNSMA) and the US. CNA/MCH/RG/2000
